Not Quite Forgotten

11x14 acrylic on canvas

I mentioned to my Dad that I really like old barns, and I would like to paint another one.  Yesterday he emailed me a picture that was the basis for this painting.  I don't always feel very inspired, and I've kind of been in another painting rut lately, so I really appreciated the photo. This past weekend my family took a spur of the moment vacation to Maine.  I did take a ton of photos while I was there, so hopefully I'll be able to find a photo from the trip that prompts another painting.

Weir River Farm Horse

6x6 acrylic on canvas panel

Last week the family headed down to Weir River Farm so my son could see and pet the animals.  He had a blast. I kept snapping photos with my phone, hoping I would have something to paint later.  I didn't too many great photos, but I did have a couple shots of this horse that I liked.

Copley

12x12 acrylic on gallery canvas

This is Copley, my sister and brother-in-law's border terrier. I really wanted to capture his likeness, so I obsessed over it with a minuscule brush.  That didn't help.  The way I had painted him with that tiny brush made him look much older than he looks in real life.  I finally grabbed a bigger brush and put in some brush strokes. It was definitely an improvement.  Now he looks more like the Copley I know.

Quiet Pond at Twilight

Something odd happens when I see a photo of a painting I've done on the computer monitor.  Suddenly I notice everything about it that bothers me.  That just happened when I posted this about a half hour ago.  So I had to take it down and "fix" it.  Here it is again!

It was such a beautiful day today.  Probably the first day this year that's actually felt like spring where we live.  Anyway, it put me in the mood to try another landscape.

We survived the trip back. It was a very nice Easter with no snow, although it was snowing quite a bit in Buffalo when we drove through.  It always seems to be snowing there... I did take my paints with me to Michigan with the intention of painting, but it didn't happen.  I'm back to it now though.  I usually paint green apples to help me get back into the swing of things, but last night at the grocery store the red apples caught my attention first.
